In Bangladesh, police have used tear gas and sound grenades against thousands of marching workers, as protests over low wages and rising living costs have spread nationwide, temporarily closing about 500 garment factories. Workers are demanding a minimum monthly wage of $242, which is double what they’re currently paid. Bangladesh’s garment industry employs around 4 million workers.
