Sonia Sanchez

Renowned writer, poet, playwright, activist, and one of the foremost leaders of the black studies and the black arts movement. She is the author of 20 books. Sanchez just completed her tour as Philadelphia’s poet laureate, and she is the recipient of both the Robert Frost Medal for distinguished lifetime service to American poetry and the Langston Hughes Poetry Award. She was a close friend of Maya Angelou.
