Man Linked to Oklahoma City Bombing Released From Jail

HeadlineJan 23, 2006

On Friday, Michael Fortier was released after serving less than 11 years in federal prison for his connection to the 1995 bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people and injured more than 400. The bombing was the deadliest domestic terrorist attack in U.S. history. Fortier knew about the bombing plan in advance and admitted to transporting stolen weapons to help finance the blast. Fortier received a reduced sentence in part because he agreed to testify against Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. The government has said little about Fortier’s release though it is believed he and his family will be put in the Witness Protection program.
