Hi there,

You turn to Democracy Now! for ad-free news you can trust. Maybe you come for our daily headlines. Maybe you come for in-depth stories that expose government and corporate abuses of power. This week Democracy Now! is celebrating our 23rd birthday. For over two decades, we've produced our daily news hour without ads, government funding or corporate underwriting. How is this possible? Only with your support. Right now, in honor of Democracy Now!'s birthday, every donation we receive will be doubled by a generous supporter. This means if you give $30 today, Democracy Now! will get $60 to support our daily news hour. Please do your part. It takes just a couple of minutes to make sure that Democracy Now! is there for you and everybody else. Thank you! -Amy Goodman

DN! Helps With Reading Comprehension!

¨Our school records indicate that about 68% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches so it’s absolutely necessary to focus on the needs and learning styles of that population. Last year I started using your program in my classroom as an integrative learning method. The curriculum of sixth grade reading is predominantly focused on sequence, vocabulary and comprehension so I play a pre-recorded segment of DN! ten minutes a week in my classroom and then we discuss things like words they didn’t understand or on-going news stories. (Interestingly enough, frequently I get questions about simple words as they pertain to political jargon, i.e., ´What do they mean by right-wing?´, ´Is neo-conservative like someone from the future?´, ´How can I tell if someone is a liberal??´ ) It’s very fun for me to educate them on such issues, but I must confess that I chose DN! for use in this forum as a self-indulgence!¨
