Jackson Browne Settles McCain Lawsuit over Unauthorized Song

HeadlineJul 22, 2009

The musician Jackson Browne has settled a lawsuit with Republican Senator John McCain for using one of Browne’s songs in a campaign ad during last year’s presidential race. The McCain campaign used Browne’s 1977 song “Running on Empty” without his permission. Browne is well known for his support of progressive causes and backed President Obama’s run for the White House. Under the settlement, Browne says the Republican Party has pledged not to use any musician’s work without their permission in future campaigns.
