India Nears 500,000 Confirmed Coronavirus Cases as Pandemic Worsens Globally

More than 9.6 million coronavirus cases have been reported around the world, and nearly half a million deaths. India is nearing a half-million cases after reporting its largest 24-hour spike Thursday, with over 17,000 new infections. Ukraine also reported a record 1,100 new cases in 24 hours, prompting warnings a lockdown may have to be reimposed. Cases are rising in Africa, topping 330,000 confirmed infections across the continent. Nearly 9,000 people have died of COVID-19 as Egypt and South Africa are among the hardest hit by the pandemic.
