Senate Coronavirus Relief Bill Fails as Another 857,000 File New Unemployment Claims

The Labor Department is reporting another 857,000 people filed for state unemployment insurance last week. In addition, 839,000 people filed claims with a federal program aimed at helping freelancers and others. Meanwhile, Senate Republicans failed to advance a new slimmed-down coronavirus relief package, making it increasingly unlikely a new stimulus bill will be approved before the election.
