Dear Friend,

This month, Democracy Now! turns 25—that’s 25 years of bringing you the voices and stories you won’t hear in the corporate media. Democracy Now! has always refused to take government or corporate funding, because nothing is more important to us than our editorial independence. Nothing is more important to us than telling you the truth. But that means we rely on you, our audience, for support. Please make your contribution of $25 or more in honor of our 25th anniversary and help us stay on air for another 25 years. Right now, a generous donor will even DOUBLE your gift, which means it’ll go twice as far! This is a challenging time for us all, but if you're able to make a donation, please do so today. Thank you and remember, wearing a mask is an act of love. Wearing two is even better.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Warns of Second Wave of Coronavirus Infections

HeadlineSep 24, 2020

The global death toll from COVID-19 has topped 975,000, according to government statistics, though the true count is likely far higher. Indonesia reported more than 4,400 new coronavirus cases Wednesday — a daily record.

India recorded more than a thousand deaths and over 80,000 new cases, keeping India on track to pass the United States within weeks as the nation with the highest caseload.

In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned Wednesday of a new surge in coronavirus cases.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: “In our four biggest provinces, the second wave isn’t just starting. It’s already underway. … We’re on the brink of a fall that could be much worse than the spring.”

France’s health minister has ordered new restrictions on public gatherings amid a record surge in new cases, while Spain is now seeing more daily cases than it did at the height of its first wave of the pandemic last spring.
