New York to Probe Social Media Sites Used by Buffalo Shooting Suspect

HeadlineMay 19, 2022

New York state is launching an investigation into social media platforms used by the Buffalo shooting suspect. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the investigation on Wednesday.

Gov. Kathy Hochul: “Today I’m announcing a referral to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the social media platforms that broadcast this horrific attack, that promote and elevate hate speech and legitimize the replacement theory in the mind of an 18-year-old, a radicalized 18-year-old.”

Governor Hochul also announced a series of steps to tighten New York’s gun laws. Later in the broadcast, we’ll speak with Kris Brown, president of Brady, one of the oldest gun violence prevention groups in the U.S.
