On Capitol Hill, the House voted Friday to reauthorize Section 702 of FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which has been used by federal agencies to conduct warrantless surveillance of Americans. The House vote came just days after a group of Republicans temporarily blocked a move to extend the law after Donald Trump urged lawmakers to kill the bill. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon denounced the House bill, saying it “represents one of the most dramatic and terrifying expansions of government surveillance authority in history.”
