But Judge Michael Farbiarz stopped short of ordering Khalil’s release from a Louisiana immigration jail, pending developments on separate Trump administration charges against him related to his permanent residency application. Last week, Mahmoud Khalil testified that deportation would be life-threatening due to smears and lies by the Trump administration. He’s married to a U.S. citizen who gave birth to the couple’s first child last month.
