Ex-APA Head Involved in Torture-Linked Firm

HeadlineAug 15, 2007

The former head of the American Psychological Association has been revealed to be a minority partner in a private firm linked to the CIA’s controversial detention and interrogation of prisoners overseas. Joseph Dominic Matarazzo has admitted he has a board seat and a 1 percent ownership in the company Mitchell Jessen & Associates. Mitchell Jessen has been hired for classified interrogation consulting work with the CIA. The disclosure comes ahead of the APA’s national conference this weekend. Dissident members are leading calls to reverse the APA’s policy of condoning member involvement in the interrogation of U.S. prisoners.
