Hi there,

The job of a journalist is to go to where the silence is — especially when those in power seek to silence voices that question or challenge power. That is what we do at Democracy Now! day in and day out, and we're able to do it because of financial support from people like you — people who trust and depend on our independent reporting. If you believe that freedom of speech and freedom of the press are essential to the functioning of a democratic society, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Three Mexican Journalists Kidnapped in Guerrero State

HeadlineJan 12, 2023

In Mexico, journalists in the southern state of Guerrero rallied Wednesday to demand the release of three of their colleagues who were kidnapped in late December. Jesús Pintor Alegre, Fernando Moreno Villegas and Alan García Aguilar work for the outlet Escenario Calentano. In a video posted to social media, two of the journalists can be seen with their hands and feet chained.

Meanwhile, authorities in Mexico City arrested 11 people in connection with the attempted assassination of prominent television and radio host Ciro Gómez Leyva in a drive-by shooting on December 15.
