HeadlineMar 18, 2025

The documentary “Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud,” which premiered last week at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, has received the festival’s Audience Award in the documentary short competition. Directed by Craig Renaud, the film tells the story of his brother Brent Renaud, the first Western journalist killed by Russian soldiers during the first weeks of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on March 13, 2022. Brent received a posthumous directors credit for the film, as well. It was produced by Downtown Community Television and HBO.
