Hi there,

In this chaotic news cycle it may be tempting to tune out, but we hope you won’t—only an informed and engaged public can defend democracy. In these times of deep political polarization we need news that goes beyond play-by-play headlines, news that goes to the heart of each story by asking people to tell their own stories of abuses of power and injustice in their own words. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

WATCH: Trump Impeachment Proceedings

Special BroadcastDecember 18, 2019

On Wednesday, December 18, 2019 the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump on two articles of impeachment. The articles accuse President Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The articles sent to the full House by the Judiciary Committee centered on how President Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine to pressure the Ukrainian president to investigate Trump’s political rival, Joe Biden, and how Trump then tried to cover up his actions to thwart a congressional inquiry.

On Tuesday, December 17, the House Rules Committee debated the rules that will govern the House of Representatives’ vote on whether or not to impeach President Trump on two charges: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

After a tense hearing on Thursday, December 12 that lasted more than 14 hours, the House Judiciary Committee reconvened voted to send the impeachment charges to the full House of Representatives for a vote.
