Hi there,

In this chaotic news cycle it may be tempting to tune out, but we hope you won’t—only an informed and engaged public can defend democracy. In these times of deep political polarization we need news that goes beyond play-by-play headlines, news that goes to the heart of each story by asking people to tell their own stories of abuses of power and injustice in their own words. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

National Guardsmen continue to patrol the nations airports nearly two months after the September 11 attacks. Islamic,Indian and Sikh organizations report that along with the increased security at airports, there has been a dramaticincrease in so-called airport profiling–in which passengers have been asked to leave an airplane or were subjectedto intense scrutiny because of their appearance.

But on Thursday Armed National Guardsmen also grabbed Nancy Oden, a Green Party USA coordinating committee member, atthe Airport in Bangor Maine. Nancy, a longtime activist, was preparing to board an American Airlines flight toChicago for an important Green Party meeting. Not only was she prevented from getting on her plane, she was told shecouldn’t get on any plane, on any airline, leaving Bangor.

Nancy Oden says it’s not her appearance that raised the suspicions of airport personnel but her activism against thewar.

Guest:

  • Nancy Oden, member of the Green Party USA Coordinating Committee.
