Hi there,

It is the job of the press to cover power, not cover for power—to hold those in power accountable by documenting what's happening on the ground and amplifying voices at the grassroots. In this critical moment, as attacks on the media escalate, we must continue to cover crackdowns on dissent, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, public health and academic freedom. Thanks to a group of generous donors, all donations made today will be DOUBLED, which means your $15 gift is worth $30. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Palestinians Agreed to Form Power-Sharing Government

HeadlineSep 12, 2006

In the Occupied Territories, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has announced that the governing Hamas party and his rival Fatah party have agreed to form a power-sharing government. Under the plan, the Hamas-led cabinet will soon be dissolved and a coalition cabinet will be formed.

  • Ghassan Al-Khatib, president of Jerusalem Media Communications: “It will also allow for political platform which hopefully will enable the international community to resume the aid and support to the Palestinian people and hopefully will enable the Quartet to resume political efforts towards resuming a political process and bilateral negotiations of the kind that can help in ending this occupation in return for peace.”
