Report: U.S. Claims Pakistan Authorized Deadly Strike

HeadlineDec 02, 2011

U.S. officials are claiming their Pakistani counterparts gave approval for the U.S. military attack that inadvertently killed 24 Pakistani troops near the border with Afghanistan last week. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the unnamed U.S. sources said the Pakistanis were unaware their forces were in the area when the strike was approved. The claim marks the latest salvo in the fallout between the United States and Pakistan over the attack. Pakistan has responded by blocking all NATO logistical supplies that cross the border into Afghanistan, demanding the United States vacate a military base, and announcing a boycott of a key international meeting on Afghanistan next week. On Thursday, protests were held across Pakistan to denounce the NATO attack.

Protester: “We want a true investigation about this incident, and we want somebody to be taken to task, too. And we want a new government policy, foreign policy, which comes at equal level between Pakistan and the rest of the world.”
