Sweden: Photographer Linked to Nobel Literature Prize Convicted of Rape

HeadlineOct 02, 2018

In Sweden, prominent French-Swedish photographer Jean-Claude Arnault has been convicted of rape and sentenced to two years in prison. The case created a firestorm around the Swedish Academy—the organization that awards the Nobel Prize in Literature—and resulted in the postponement of this year’s top prize for authors. Arnault is married to one of the Swedish Academy’s members, and the academy has admitted that it was aware of sexual assault allegations against him in 1996 but took no action.
