Hi there,

It is the job of the press to cover power, not cover for power—to hold those in power accountable by documenting what's happening on the ground and amplifying voices at the grassroots. In this critical moment, as attacks on the media escalate, we must continue to cover crackdowns on dissent, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, public health and academic freedom. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Louisiana: Authorities Investigate Arsons at 3 Black Churches

HeadlineApr 09, 2019

In Louisiana, authorities are investigating fires at three black churches over a period of 10 days, which they say are likely related, though no motive or suspect has been found thus far. No deaths or injuries were reported in the blazes. The first fire occurred at the end of last month, and the two others last week—all in the same community, about 30 minutes north of Lafayette. A fourth fire that occurred last Sunday at a predominantly white church in another part of Louisiana is also being investigated but is not believed to be connected.
