Climate Crisis Fuels Deadly Heat Wave Across Much of Asia

HeadlineApr 20, 2023

A record-shattering heat wave has hit multiple Asian countries, including India, Bangladesh, Laos, Thailand and parts of China. In the Indian state of Maharashtra, at least 13 people who attended an outdoor event died from heatstroke on Sunday. Scientific models predict extreme heat waves in India could get so bad, they would not be considered survivable by 2050 even by a healthy person resting in the shade. This comes as the U.N. said this week India is poised to overtake China as the world’s most populous country by June of this year.
