Entergy announced plans on August 27, 2013 to close and decommission the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in Vernon, Vermont, by the end of 2014. The site has been the target of protests for decades. In 2010, the Vermont Senate voted against a measure that would have authorized a state board to grant Vermont Yankee a permit to operate for an additional 20 years. Democracy Now! has covered this issue for years.
