Hi there,

Can you donate $10 per month to support Democracy Now!’s independent journalism all year long? Since our very first broadcast in 1996, we’ve refused to take government or corporate funding, because nothing is more important to us than our editorial independence—especially in this unprecedented election year. When Democracy Now! covers war and peace or the climate crisis, we’re not brought to you by the weapons manufacturers or the oil, gas, coal or nuclear companies. Our journalism is powered by YOU. But that means we can’t do our work without your support. Right now, a generous donor will DOUBLE your gift, which means your $10 donation this month will be worth $20 to Democracy Now! Please do your part right now. We’re all in this together. Thank you so much.

REVEREND BILLY: Good morning. I’m Reverend Billy from the Church of Stop Shopping in New York City, here in the firehouse studio.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend and celebrate with us in one or both of the super rallies upcoming, on Saturday in Portland, Maine, and Sunday in New Haven, Connecticut. While the engineers of globalization are secretly meeting in some hideaway cave with grizzly bears out in the Rocky Mountains, stopping people along the borders from the United States from getting anywhere near them to comment or to register their anger about the world economic system right now, I think it’s really interesting that we are gathering hundreds of political action people. People are just rolling up their sleeves and getting to work in Portland and in New Haven this weekend.

I think that it’s time for us to just take—take our own neighborhoods, take our own lives, take control of them, and say that we are politics, our neighborhood, our town. We’re going to take control of our own health issues. We’re going to take care of our own economic issues. People, now is the time. Roll up your sleeves. Join us. We have Janeane Garofalo. We have Jello Biafra, Patti Smith, Ralph Nader. Democracyrising.org is where your tickets are available.

I want you to come to the radio now. I want you to come to the TV screen. I want you to put your hand on that gadget, child. And I want you to know that hope is alive. Democracy is arising! Democracy is arising, Sister Amy! Don’t you agree, people in the studio here? I want to hear some clapping. Put your hands together. Democracy is arising in New England this weekend! Join us! Get your tickets! Democracyrising.org! Join us! We’re going to save our souls! We’re going to beat globalization! We’re going to take the neighborhoods back! Hallelujah, child! Ah! Wo! Yeah! Woo, that feels good! Amen! Praise be! Hallelujah! Woo! Woo!
