Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy introduced the measure on Wednesday. Appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, a Federal Trade Commission official testified U.S. drug law gives generic companies more incentive to be bought off than to develop cheaper alternatives to branded and more expensive medications.
