7th World Social Forum Concludes in Nairobi

HeadlineJan 26, 2007

In Kenya, grassroots activists from around the world wrapped up the seventh edition of the World Social Forum. Tens of thousands of people gathered in Nairobi’s Freedom Park chanting “Another world is possible.” The American actor and TransAfrica Forum Chair Danny Glover said the meeting continues to embolden activists to create change.

Danny Glover: “We must use all our powers, we must use all we have, to make sure that our governments respond to atrocities. We must also respond to what the interests, what the global interests or what real interests, are in the Horn Africa, for the U.S., for the West and for China. We have to respond to that. It is critical for all us, in every sector, from grassroots organization to civil society, and for the government to respond to what is happening on the continent.”

This week’s gathering was the first World Social Forum held in Africa.
