Hi there,

For nearly 30 years, Democracy Now! has reported on the silenced majority fighting to end war, authoritarianism, environmental destruction, human rights violations, immigration crackdowns, and so much more. Next Tuesday, December 2nd, is Giving NewsDay (independent media’s spin on Giving Tuesday). Thanks to a group of generous donors, donations made today through Giving NewsDay will be TRIPLED, which means your $15 gift is worth $45. Please donate today, so we can keep bringing you our hard-hitting, independent news. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

“Nickel and Dimed” Author Barbara Ehrenreich Dies at 81

HeadlineSep 06, 2022

The writer and activist Barbara Ehrenreich has died at the age of 81. She is best known for her book “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America.” To research the book, she went undercover as a low-income, nonskilled worker. She later founded the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. We’ll air part of our 2011 interview with Barbara Ehrenreich later in the broadcast and speak with Democracy Now! co-host Juan González about her work with the Young Lords in the early 1970s as a member of the Health Policy Advisory Council.
