Hi there,

In this chaotic news cycle it may be tempting to tune out, but we hope you won’t—only an informed and engaged public can defend democracy. In these times of deep political polarization we need news that goes beyond play-by-play headlines, news that goes to the heart of each story by asking people to tell their own stories of abuses of power and injustice in their own words. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

600 Hilton Workers in Boston Join Nationwide Hotel Strike

HeadlineOct 08, 2024

In labor news, some 600 workers at two Hilton hotels in Boston have gone on strike, joining thousands of others in at least four other U.S. cities who’ve walked off the job demanding higher wages, better staffing and fair workloads. Those striking include housekeepers, front desk agents, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders, bellhops and door attendants.

A total of more than 4,700 hotel workers with the UNITE HERE union are currently on strike at Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott hotels in Boston, Honolulu, San Diego and San Francisco.
